Medicare Supplement Plan N 2020
Supplemental medical insurance is offered by private insurers and created by Medicare as a way to cover many of the leftover expenses that seniors often have to pay when Original Medicare is inadequate for them. One of the most cost effective of the supplemental insurance plans is Medicare Supplement Plan N 2020. We want to tell you a bit about it, including what it will cover, how you can sign up for it and how it works with other medical insurance policies.
Plan N Gives You Powerful Coverage
If you were to choose Medicare Supplement Plan N as your coverage policy, then you would be covered well for various expenses. Original Medicare already covers a lot of common expenses, such as hospital stays, outpatient care, medical tests and treatments. However, there are a number of other associated medical costs that are simply not covered by this standard senior medical plan.
These can include copays, deductibles, coinsurance, excessive charges, and even the blood used during hospital stays. Plan N covers a lot of this for you. Here is a list of the items it can take care of for you:
Medicare Part A copay
Medicare Part B copay (except for emergency room visits and doctor’s office visits)
Medicare Part A annual deductible
Medicare Part A hospice coinsurance
Medicare Part B coinsurance for preventative care
Nursing facility care coinsurance
Three pints of blood each year
Foreign travel costs for emergency medical services
There are a few medical expenses that fall into the supplemental care category that Plan N will not be responsible for paying. These would be some of the smaller copays, all the Part B excess charges and the Part B annual deductible. Those Part B (or outpatient care) expenses will be the responsibility of the insured person. These tend to be some of the smaller medical expenses that seniors have to pay, or at least those that are less common.
How to Get Medicare Supplement Plan N
We told you already that private insurance companies will sell the Supplement plans, even though policies like Plan N have the Medicare name attached. They are not sold via Medicare, though. They are simply designed by Medicare and have guaranteed insurance coverage. This means that no matter which private insurance company you choose to purchase Plan N through, you get the same coverage we discussed a moment ago. This is guaranteed no matter where you live, what price you pay for your plan or which insurance company you buy the policy through.
In order to sign up for Plan N, you first need to qualify. You will need to be at least 65 years old and have a valid Original Medicare plan. That would be both parts A and B of Medicare. The Supplement plan simply doesn’t function without that complementary coverage, since it is meant to cover where Original Medicare leaves off.
Medicare Supplement Plan N 2020 is available to anyone who is a senior and a subscriber of Original Medicare. You may be able to qualify for Supplement plans and Medicare earlier than age 65, if you have a valid medical condition. If you are not sure if you qualify right now, then you can always contact us and be assessed for eligibility. A Medicare representative can help you with that information as well, but we can also provide you with pricing information for Medicare Supplement Plan N and other Supplements.
Supplement Plans and Other Medical Insurance
Medicare Supplements are designed to work perfectly with Original Medicare. They may not work quite as well with other kinds of medical insurance. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, for example, then you cannot have a Medicare Supplement at the same time. The same rules apply to every kind of Medicare Supplement. No matter how little or how much they cover, they will not be compatible with Medicare Advantage, and that is due to the overlap between the two kinds of plans.
This overlap exists between Medicare Supplements and most medical insurance plans from your employer or from a union. If there is any overlap between the plans, then you will be paying for the same coverage twice, and Medicare won’t allow that. You will need to choose between one plan or the other. You won’t receive any coverage from the new plan until you cancel the existing plan with its conflicting coverage.
If you are not sure which plans are compatible with Medicare Supplement Plan N and which ones conflict, then be sure to get in touch with us and let us help you. We can assist you in making the right choice and in picking a plan that will work with your existing coverage or that will cover you well as a replacement for what you have currently.
